Whaanau Ora

"He hauora te taonga" Health is a gift

Embracing a holistic view of well-being, we acknowledge that the care of our hinengaro (mental health) and wairua (spiritual health) are as vital as caring for our tinana (physical health). Within this section, you will find a collection of inspiring stories from our whaanau. They share the varied ways in which they prioritise their hauora, the sources of support they rely upon, and the cultural foundations that shape their identities.

"We live in such a beautiful place. I know this place & it knows me, I'm from this whenua"

"It allows me to be who I am.....to be Māori"

"If one of the moko's says we need to have a karakia, we have one"

"They support me in a lot of things. And if they know I can't do it, they will help me"

"I think many young Maaori will have stories growing up in the maara with their grandparents. It's a passion and something we can look forward to".

Please note: This mahi uses the Waikato dialect convention of double vowels to represent long vowel sounds, in place of macrons. This choice reflects the regional context of the Ngaaruawahia participants who contributed significantly to its content.
